Peran Perempuan Muda Mempawah hadapi krisis iklim

Efforts to strengthen the capacity of young women in facing the climate crisis are continuously being intensified. One such effort is through a workshop organized by Gemawan titled “Young Women’s Leadership in Building Community Resilience to the Climate Crisis” on March 27–28, 2026, at the Sadaniang District Hall, Mempawah Regency.

This activity involved dozens of young female participants from three villages: Sekabuk Village, Bumbun Village, and Suak Barangan Village. Also present at the activity were representatives from the Sadaniang District Government, village heads, and village officials from the three regions.

Rahma, a Gemawan activist, explained that this workshop is the final part of the REDAA Program series, which has been ongoing for approximately two years across three regencies: Mempawah, Kapuas Hulu, and Kubu Raya.

“Through this workshop, we present the research results that have been conducted during the program’s implementation. We want to ensure that the outcomes do not stop as mere research but can be utilized by various parties,” she said.

Rahma added that besides presenting the research findings, her team also introduced a training module specifically designed to enhance young women’s leadership, particularly in climate change mitigation efforts at the community level.

According to her, the research conducted includes a study on the role of young women in facing climate change, including an analysis of land cover changes in the village areas. The results show significant environmental dynamics in all three villages.

“Young women have great potential as agents of change. Therefore, it is important to encourage them to be more actively involved in efforts to face the climate crisis,” she explained.

Rahma also hopes that the workshop outcomes and the training module that have been developed can be utilized by village and district governments as a basis for formulating policies based on data and local needs.

“We hope this can be followed up in the form of concrete programs in the villages. Additionally, the young women’s groups that have been formed are also expected to continue to develop,” she said.

She also highlighted several environmental challenges faced by the community, such as prolonged dry seasons, limited clean water, and the impact of haze experienced by residents. These conditions are seen as further emphasizing the importance of strengthening community capacity in facing climate change.

In closing, Rahma hopes that the module that has been developed can serve as a sustainable learning tool for the younger generation.

“This module is expected to be used to educate and train the next generation to be more aware and involved in climate change mitigation efforts,” she concluded.
