The Serumpun Asoka Group of Singkawang officially inaugurated its Waste Bank Warehouse in Sungai Garam Hilir Village, North Singkawang District, Singkawang City, on February 24, 2025.
This event marked an important step toward raising public awareness about sustainable waste management and building a cleaner, healthier, and better-organized environment.
The waste bank warehouse serves as a collection and sorting facility where recyclable materials are stored before being processed further. Beyond its environmental benefits, the initiative is also expected to generate economic value by turning waste into creative and productive resources. Many residents have shown enthusiasm for the program by collecting recyclable waste, such as plastic bottles, cans, and cardboard, to be exchanged or sold.
“We hope that with this warehouse, the community will become more aware of the importance of proper waste management. Besides helping reduce pollution, this program can also provide an additional source of income for residents,” said a representative of the Serumpun Asoka Group.
Inauguration and Community Education
The inauguration ceremony was lively, attended by community leaders, environmental partners, and government representatives who expressed strong support for the initiative.
During the event, participants received education on waste sorting techniques and the economic potential of waste banks.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion between residents and stakeholders, which further strengthened public participation and understanding of waste management practices.
This waste bank initiative has gained support from multiple partners actively promoting recycling and circular economy movements in Singkawang.
Moving forward, the group hopes that more neighborhoods will join the program, expanding its benefits to surrounding areas.
With sustained collaboration and collective effort, the Waste Bank Warehouse is expected to foster a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable city, while empowering the local community through environmentally conscious economic activities.
