The assisted village groups of Gemawan, which are part of the Commodity-Based Farmer Network from the regencies of Mempawah, Kubu Raya, and Sambas, held an event titled “Farmer Network Consolidation and Commodity Business Meeting” on Thursday (14/05/2026) at the Hall of the Bakau Kecil Village Office, East Mempawah District, Mempawah Regency.
The event was officially opened by the Acting Head of Bakau Kecil Village and facilitated by Gemawan as part of efforts to strengthen community economic networks based on local commodities and sustainable resource management.
Lani Ardiansyah, Coordinator of Gemawan for the Mempawah Region, stated that the event brought together a number of strategic parties, including PT Hikma Jaya Sempurna, which is currently focusing on developing coconut-derived products, particularly processing coconut coir waste into cocopeat and organic fertilizer with economic value.
In addition, the event also featured an international buyer through PT Pusaka Insan Indonesia. According to Lani, the presence of these industry partners and buyers represents an important moment in opening up broader market opportunities for the flagship commodities produced by the assisted farmer network.
“Through this meeting, we hope to create strong collaboration between the farmer network, the industrial sector, and policymakers in promoting inclusive, sustainable, and locally based economic growth,” said Lani Ardiansyah, who is affectionately known as Ucup.
He added that coconut commodities have great potential for development, both in West Kalimantan in general and in Mempawah Regency in particular. According to him, strengthening the coconut sector is also a strategic step in preserving community land so that it does not continuously convert into plantations for other commodities or monoculture plantations.
“Coconuts have considerable export market potential. Therefore, developing this commodity can serve as an economic alternative for the community while ensuring the sustainability of land use,” he added.
Farmer Network Supports Four Strategic Pillars
This activity is part of the “Improving Community Based Economic Movement in West Kalimantan” program for the 2024–2027 period, implemented by Gemawan. Through this consolidation agenda, four main objectives are to be achieved.
First, strengthening supply chain synergy through the development of production partnerships and downstream processing of coconut commodities together with the industrial sector.
Second, enhancing farmer capacity and local economic institutions through direct visits to coconut coir waste processing plants. The event was also attended by the Head of the UPT KPH Mempawah as a form of strengthening multi-stakeholder collaboration and support for real-sector standardization.
Third, expanding business networks by opening global market access through business meetings with international buyers.
Fourth, encouraging the formalization of cooperation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build transparent, fair, and sustainable partnerships.
Ucup emphasized that this activity is expected to be an initial step in strengthening the position of local farmers within the broader market chain, while also underscoring the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in building an independent and sustainable village economy.
“We hope that this agenda will not only serve as a space for farmer network consolidation but also be able to present real economic opportunities that have a direct impact on village communities,” he concluded. (*)
