Menggagas Kalimantan Baru untuk Ekosistem Baru

“We want to envision a New Kalimantan — a living system that connects all elements and strengthens women farmers and food defenders throughout the island,”

Gemawan held a workshop titled “Designing Strategies to Build Ecosystem Builders for Systemic Change on Women’s Issues” at Rumah Gesit Borneo, Ujung Pandang, Pontianak.

The event brought together academics, governance experts, gender advocates, and Gemawan activists to collaborate in shaping a shared vision for the future of Kalimantan.

Strengthening Civil Society Across Borneo

In her opening remarks, Laili Khairnur, Director of Gemawan, emphasized the organization’s long-standing commitment to strengthening civil society movements across Kalimantan.

“Just last week, we declared the Borneo Initiative — a collective effort to focus on empowering civil society in West, Central, South, and East Kalimantan,”
Laili explained.

Held on September 24–25, 2024, the workshop aimed to design strategic steps to respond to the dynamic social changes taking place across the region.

Building a Living Ecosystem for Change

Laili shared that Gemawan aspires to create an ecosystem builder, a system that not only functions as a builder but also as a feeder — nurturing every element within the network.

“We want to envision a New Kalimantan — a living system that connects all elements and strengthens women farmers and food defenders throughout the island,”
she said.

According to her, the ecosystem builder model is expected to enhance the capacity and access of women farmers while engaging multiple stakeholders across various levels.

“Gemawan’s 3C Strategy must serve as the core method for weaving this collaborative ecosystem,”
Laili concluded.
